red cellophane

she told me it wouldn't be a problem
it wasn't - it was a catastrophe
she ignored my fifty-six years of experience
and relied on her twenty-three instead
when her dad opened the front door
his eyes got sort of ovoid and bulgy
then they narrowed,
like he was aiming a rifle
while staring through red cellophane
i tried to engage him in conversation
but everything i said came out wrong
like double entendre,
like i was trying to piss him off
i said i really admired his daughter
and then i drooled!
i couldn't believe it, but there it was
like damning evidence, it plopped
on his glass coffee table and quivered

sorry jack. i appreciate your appreciation! when i get you to respond it makes me feel good. i read your first reply late last night - got sidetracked - and then went to sleep. i am a man of very little moral fiber.
