like two pitchmen in search of a double helix

Post by constantine » June 26th, 2010, 10:04 am

i don't understand anything
i worry each night that i'll die in my sleep
and wake up in the morning wishing i was dead

i'm wasting my time, my life
down one street and up another
it's the journey they tell me
it's all in the journey,
but where am i going
what the hell am i doing
the numbers on the clock keep changing
it makes me nervous
like i'm forgetting something

and my stupid friends
oh god, they are so stupid
they say go for it -
go for what?
she's better off without
my helping hands
my gravedigger hands
that corrupt in the name of love
like two pitchmen in search of a double helix
what will they do when they find it

that clock thing makes me nervous too. seemed to go a lot slower when I was trying to get older. and aside from the accelerating time thing, it's the steady erosion of the "I'll understand everything when I get older" sense (as you get older). it's like, "wait, wasn't I supposed to be there already on some of this stuff? so how is cinci treating you?

Just a wonderful helical trick,
That was discovered by Watson & Crick...
Did first come de tock or first come de tick?...
Den de chimes go ring, ring, ring,
On dat magical atomic clock thing...

Don't ask me a riddle, I don't know nothin',
My head long ago was filled with stuffin'...
Speak to me, Lord, with lips that never lie, &
I'll follow your trails into the stars in the sky...

(See in slightly different form on my standing column,
"Life in the Horse Lane")
