i want to write her a love poem
but i can't right now
too much is happening
hassles
distractions
but i love you, i really do

i want to write her a love poem
but i don't want to be intrusive
does she want a gift from me
would it truly make her happy
would she prefer it from someone else
one should think about such things

i want to write her a love poem
one that cleanses the past
one that argues in my favor
i want her to love me again
though, we know
where it got us before

i want to write her a love poem
i don't know what else to say

you tell us you don't know what else to say, but truth is, you said it all....
there's nothing else when you bare it down to marrow, and it's hell desperately wanting to do the right thing, but unsure what that is.....and if everyone could be an open book you wouldn't need to worry about that, would you, but nooooo, people gotta be complicated...and that's of course why the artist falls in love with someone with many edges to study, someone with endless mystery to keep him amused and contented, keep him interested, and there in lies the rub.....it's fucking complicated, there ain't nothin' simple about it

thank you so much, guys. i really appreciate the feedback and will try to offer more of my own. i've been lax on that and all of you deserve better. i'm 57 and going full-time at the university of cincinnati so my time is a little limited, but still one should make time out of courtesy and consideration and camaraderie. i will try to do better. again, thank you.
