we poets
we jammers
we decorate the cadillac night
we are the morphing ghosts
of everyone's dreams
true clowns that recount
in sound
unforgiven & driven
by rhythm
making sign
& giving notation
of how many times
we are multiplied
by ourselves
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

even this side of solstice
the wind whispers sweet morning
then grabs my hat

nothing for nothing
birds invade treetops
waiting for hunters to tire
then continue their rap

cosmic conversations
leaves to rooftops
starshine to thunder

a lot to say
long night to fill
pull up a cloud

sittin in the midst

the distance long
hard roads follow us
they are righteous
we did do right
i am so pleased tonight
its hard to come home
me I feel like I'm becoming some kinda Kung fu t.v. Priest.....

OK, so now that we're in heaven together,
take off your wings and relax. As a matter of fact,
take off your halo, too. And whatever you do,
make sure that cloud you're sitting on belongs to you.

No wait! This is great! We can share the clouds,
like it was meant to be! Everything here belongs
to us all and it's all FREE!

No charge, no monies changing hands, no taxes!
So sit back, relax and kick off your shoes.
The good news is you won't need boots to wade
through the snow or the earthbound shit. Soon there will
be a parade! What a terrific place we've made.

And don't forget to visit the world every now and then.
Bring your quill, carry your pen. Tell them how poetry
can save their souls, how verses conversed can make them whole!
Tell those souls it's a viable religion, this poetic vision!
Show up incognito, ok? Might as well do it today.
Tell the people how poetry makes peace.
Tell the people how poetry makes love.
Will you please? Bring the message from above!

Heaven is waiting, it's in their hearts.
Conversations in verses are a valuable start.
Thank you for your work 'cause this is your fate.
(And please don't forget to bring the donation plate.)

i'm amazed
i'm angered
i'm doorways
a cliche
a two-ended paraphrase
... and to hell with the shovel
that will bury my face ...
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

If I didn't write verses which were trite,
I might as well put my pen in a drawer.
I feel it's important! Being cliche is a right!
Otherwise what am I writing for?

"The Gateless Gate Penny Haiku, Take 2"

By Steve Plonk

I write this and play the fool
I don't hesitate,
Writing this in honor of Studio Eight,
The Gateless Gate...
Hurry up and then you wait,
But mind is moving,
Through the gateless gate...
Power up your mind
With the echoed bells of time
Dazzle your eyes
With stars & sighs
Fear not the absurd
It's a brand new tug of the word...
Which as we type takes flight,
Whether it be morning or night...

It was morning this morning
and the night seems such a long ways away,
but all the story begins unfolding
then we'll pick up another way
for celebrating,
hello day!

keep the parade a-going
I'll be tucked into a float
and gently make it
down the streets
with a festive longing
hope.
`Do you know, I was so angry, Kitty,' Alice went on...`when I saw all the mischief you had been doing, I was very nearly opening the window, and putting you out into the snow! And you'd have deserved it, you
little mischievous darling!

It's not healthy to be confused
when the lights are shining so bright.
It's probably never a good idea to feel like this
but something isn't right.
Oh well, what the hell,
I guess I'll go to sleep.
Tomorrow I'll greet the world
with a less absurd attitude.
I don't need reassurances or platitudes
just an honest sun when the new day's
begun. May all of your holidays be filled
with the thrill of peace.
Or contentment, at least.
Now and then.... Amen.

the torment of document
bingo jam
a thin cent for rent
pitching our tents for intensity
secrets tempt -
matters not - we have commenced
we superintend
we help out each other
and ourselves by being here
from the heavy end to the thin edge
and jet from the pen
to gain together
our run in the stretch
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
