we all need some healin'
time to time, in time
things fall apart, sand
castles too close to shore
so we gotta start again
repair the damage done
by innocent waves that
have to dance, can't do
a damn thing to change
it up, blame it on the moon
but once it's done it's done
and so no sense pointing
no fingers, just pick your
self up, sew up the wounds
with time and love and friends
walk a new walk, talk a new talk
breathe some good air

Healing starts with the first wound,
the first hurt, the scab, its hardness
the process, the interruptions, the need,
the time, the goddamn time, it's shortness
the breath, the heartbeats, the rhythm.

The rest of the day will last without me,
and move on, whether I'm there or not.

it starts
one small chance
meets another

strength in numbers
chances with chances
increased odds

How does the world fare
does it need to be healed.
Seems as though it must
hate resides in most fields.

That hate in these fields
wider spread than you'd think.
Threatens us all
damn, our attitudes stink.

Our ways need some changin'
that's real plain to see.
But knowin' it's needed
ain't enough, you agree?

So where do we start?
How do we mold change?
There must be a method
that isn’t too strange.

And where to begin
that's a problem itself.
Here's a novel idea
we start with our self.

Just look deep inside
find your faults and your flaws.
Before ripping at others
with bigoted claws.

Show love and compassion
to all that you meet.
Whether at home, next door
or out on the street.

If you can then by chance
help just one living soul.
It will be the first step
toward changing the whole.

If by changing just one
and he passes it on.
Another step's taken
we've birthed a new dawn.

Now then the changed
although only a few,
Can show others the way
that they can change too.

on the corner of the street
a mesquite tree, a victim of hit and run
bark scarred and torn
listing towards death and dying

I watched the gardeners
prop her up with tethers and wires
carefully digging roots
back into life giving soil

a circle of large stones
her brothers, keeping cars at bay
leaves still intact
growing stronger upward

that tree just needed a chance
someone to care, to love and nurture
she is me, she is you, she is us
we are all healing healers

love starts with a sprig
wounds open and close forever
healing comes from crisis
crisis is the healing

simply love this

within me
a vestige of a tree
in wait of re-birth

*no animals were injured in the making of this picture

there's an imprint of a starling in front of me
he flew against my window
left bird-dust behind
i think that's his eye, that's definitely his tail
wings flung up in the 'oh no' position
before i knew what'd happened i saw him flying the scene
he survived it
he's not thinking about it or telling his friends
it's over
time to do the next birdy thing
time for lunch
but here's the ghost of the almost-tragedy
fine and detailed and i can't stop looking at it
he's smarter than i am
i'd be talking about it thirty years later

(love the posts here, and nice to see everyone)

pieces of feather and beak

in the yard
a pile of feathers
left in the dust
evidence!

gone bird
fly bird
dead bird
flew the coop

everything goes
flies away
one way or another...

i've found those piles of feathers
whoop yes someone is gone, coop flown, not coming back
and the healing part of this is...

it has to be coffee
coffee is good
and sometimes just things being quiet in the morning

that's it, that's all i've got

Robin fell from the tree,
landed hard, broke its wing.
I picked it up, brought it home,
gave it love and nurturing.
Soon we'll hear our robin sing.

Casualties, statistics?
It's not all that simplistic.

Wars and wars and countless wars.
Not just numbers if the fallen are yours.
