spent the afternoon with tom robbins
visiting another roadside attraction
no sun behind me, the air was sandalwood
the juice was grape
my phone could not speak to me
the ceiling fan's tempo
had this arrhythmic bump in the night,
my children's faces were framed everywhere
my eyelids were crocodile,
my art stared back at me as if
everything in this room was trying
to tell me something
I'd turn back to my book
only to see a shadow move
in my peripheral awareness
I knew it wasn't a mouse or a water bug
I knew it wasn't any kind of intruder,
this room was waving....psst
I laid my hands on every square inch
and now my eyes insisted I finally see it
there is medicine here....powerful shit
story after story endless days and nights
more than half of my time in this earthen space
memories to remind me...kilroy was here
