origin of decay

to calculate, by chance or by fate
life, at its best is a smile
the conceived reward, one so adored
arrives cast as a child

borne into time, a curious mind
in a world so eternally vast
accending in turn, will he learn
unknowing a future or past

steps in between, another routine
with every new thing to explore
a journey today, but you must stay
left waving at the shore

wishing wells and evil spells
a fair share of magic dust
they'll prophesy to pacify
and design a fabricated trust

make the grade, you'll never fade
your potential must be met
taught to conform, the drive to perform
outwits the virtue of threat

impressions laid, later to trade
could move from better to worse
to know in advance, not just by chance
the fever falls short of a curse

symbols in sound shake the ground
and tease with visions of fire
rather than fight, you choose to invite
the illusions of pure desire

aroused within, thoughts tend to spin
to the freedom you crudely express
reality aside, your reflection can hide
the fears that you possess

those places you roam so far from home
are not by challenge or choice
perceptions expand to a higher command
with its solmn, magnetic vioce

then leading the chase in a terminal race
of which there is no prize
you cannot blame the rules of the game
win or lose, the player dies

there is much in this poem, walt. it is heavy with meaning...the paradox is, it flows so seamlessly it's almost heavy to read. i had to go back a few times while reading to not miss anything.

this is a story from birth to death
hard to see details because they
are my own, but I like to leave it
open for the reader to find some
meanings in it of their own

glad you liked
