Writing is like prostitution

Post by Doreen Peri » May 3rd, 2009, 12:45 pm

"Writing is like prostitution. First you do it for the love of it. Then you do it for a few friends. And finally you do it for money.'' – Moliere

I did very well with the first part.
I wrote reams of it! The second part
didn't work out as well.

I wrote more, lots more ...
made a few friends along the way,
but really not that many true friends.

I could see right through them.
It was clear as day. All they wanted
me for was my writing.

And now that I've penned
a vast library of the stuff,
I was wondering....
would you like to buy some?

I can offer a bulk purchase
savings special! I'll only charge
for nouns.

Verbs, adverbs, adjectives
all will be gratis. Nouns are the
most valuable words so I have to
charge for them.

But if you buy today by
5pm eastern time, I can give you
10% off on the nouns.

hmmm... 10% off for nouns before 5:pm EST... what about content? content is important to me. it's gotta have content that moves me, sends me, transports me... but never confuses me. i'm a traveller, you know... ;)

That's the value of the nouns. They ARE the content. They're the images. The scenery. The concrete matter. The nouns are what will move you, send you, transport you...

This is a deal! I'm tellin' ya! :D Don't pass this up, Cec!

Given the title of your piece, it reminded me of Anais Nin... in particular her writing erotica for a 'collector' (btw: along with Henry Miller) back in the 1940's in Paris. These writings were printed into two books in the 70's.

More than you wanted to know, right? Right.

Anyway... I'm watching this thread and when 2:45MST rolls around, I'm gonna see how your doing with your sales... "It's worth it!" I'm told... and nobody ever bullshits me. :)

I've never read Anais Nin... i really need to read her. I always hear good things about her work.

Just remember, cecil and hest .... i'm only charging for the nouns and i'm giving a discount on them... BUT you also will get all the verbs, adverbs & adjectives for FREE ...

Yes, this is a deal you shouldn't pass up.

what a great idea, hest! I need a catchy ad line... once I have that? these will sell like hotcakes!

oh and thanks for wanting a few! send your check and I'll ship them to you immediately!

I always like my verbs with a side order of proverbs. How much will that run me?..

(Sorry).

I'm an adjective girl, but your nouns are always ripe for the picking! How much is my running tab costing me at the moment?

nouns are like nuns, you get the habit, that writing jones, you don't want that habit, cus you arn't a nun, but habit is a noun, i guess jones is a verb.

All they wanted
me for was my writing.
Yeah, sorry about that. :D

Japanese man to my semi-regular girlfriend on train between Maizuru and Kyoto: "How much?"

I was there. We were fighting.

Doreen I'd buy a bulk rate shipment of your nouns. Can you send them express mail? I really need some good nouns now. Yours are just what I need.

John
