competition time

[sweetwater]

in the remembrance of a day in passing
in the celebration of its happening
love poems and the intermingling of time
and spirit dances

and this is not a love poem of kind
rather the beginning of a song
in the telling or the mood of poetry
and how it ruminates and designs its own ending

as you get older the confusion which once beset
the machinations of youth dissipates
and you grow wise in the eyes of a beautiful day

and the words and phrases don't seem to speak
as much as they represent only what you
interpret them as being

as you are free in the reading and waves upon waves
of your emotional journey

as it doesn't have to win a contest
for it to have a moment of 'something'
worth experiencing

as is love in the affectionate afternoon
or an evening in the gentle swaying of branches

as for the wind as it releases itself
from the constraints of time
and what used to be competition

as time is what competes against us
until there is none left to enjoy

until time becomes as solitude or friend
we are pushing and fighting against ourselves
until the end
