place called Freeland

Post by keithalanhamilton » August 2nd, 2009, 10:46 am

I grew up in the USA, the state of Michigan
with my mother and father, sister and brother
me, I was the second born that middle child
we all lived together in an area called Freeland
a place not populated enough to be a village
being an unincorporated community, listed as
some census-designated place located within
the central portion of Tittabawassee Township

Our home then was located on Carter Road
about two miles away from Tri-City Airport
now MBS, we were surrounded by farmland
farmed mainly by those of German ancestry
not unlike my mother’s side of the family
German/Polish from the Kingdom of Prussia
land was divvied into four mile squares of road
bumpy log roads layered with tar and gravel

Life was filled with various sounds and smells
noisy equipment, smelly fertilizers and yes
when the winds were right that unmistakable
undeniable aroma of cow pies and pig crap
yet the railroad tracks nearby with loud trains
clanking down the tracks led to the worse smell
emanating from the Dow Chemical Company
based next to the polluted Tittabawassee River

However, it was there walking along those rails
and along the fence rows of planted or freshly
tilled fields, My Empathic Mysticism emerged
when laying in the heat of tall grasses or trudging
through patches of woods left uncut by farmers
my felt sense of spirituality within me leapt forth
while listening to a bird like the meadowlark or
just bending over to smell the cool damp ground

At these moments I felt the oneness with all Nature
feeling some interconnectivity or interdependence
sort of this systemic interrelationship with all else
me relating to all else embodied this whole system
as if one as a totality interacting as Nature’s process
causing me to experience a wholeness as a mystic
bestowing me with fresh intelligently progressive
and perceptive insights, all in a place called Freeland

Indeed the real human condition in all's its splendor, beyond the hype and circumstance. Raise an invisible flag, put a star on it. Many of us are already there, in silence and secret.....
