the poetry news and hall mark moments

Post by revolutionrabbit » October 17th, 2009, 7:45 pm

and now for the poetry news
today on the east west front
it was rumored that the twain
did indeed meet somewhere in the
middle of no-woman's-land

also Edgar Allen Poe
received a real funeral
it has been 160 years
since his mysterious demise
a hand full of his most ardent
admirers came for the final
never more farewell

and in other news, the unknown poet
was being rained on and crapped on by birds
which is exactly what happened to mister Poe
don't you know, he had been hoodwinked
by political hooligans and made to be drunk
which was a practice that sadly is left out
of US history books

and so today we salute all drunken poets
where ever they are, even if you are just
drunk on wonder, we salute all the unknown
poets that stand on street corners and tell
the world as its passes by , like it is

sadly we still have people who write verse
that still believe that their personal history
is so interesting that we care about the
wall paper they use, and the view from
their bathroom window as they bird
watch and reminisce about the seasons

a thousand different ways to speak about leaves
as they fall from the forlorn looking trees, reasons
to wax poetic about wax paper and the paper
weights on their desk and this one with the little
christmas scene in the glass that you turn over
and the fake snow falls like your flake words

yes today poetry is safe and sane and we bid
adieu to all the great poets that died in vain
the soldier poets in Flanders fields
to the ones that utter their last poem
in the mud of France face down
we bid farewell to all the ones that crossed over
to the other side face up in a gutter eyes turning
into brown sugar suns, the lines they were going
to pen that day still,on their parched lips
they died so we could write another day
they passed to the other side so we could remember
those immortal lines..".do not go gentle into that good night"
and Donne de Donne Donne,"death be not proud" and
too "i took the one less traveled" a frosty reminder

pass freely the bottle of poem
so others may drink of words
written and spoken like death
covered in mortality escaping
the cacaphony of insanity
posing bravely in dark corners

salud!
