road trip 2010

Post by mnaz » September 12th, 2010, 2:18 pm

two lanes into glow, desert hum comes
mythical metaphysical, with the territory
dimensionless hum and glow, mythic eyes
afloat, mythologize the sand and light
you always do that

the biggest sin is a motel room and cable
humming in space, your dimensionless eyes
hucksters, bail bondsmen hiding under rocks
rough country ahead, and then the preachers
temptation and real estate schemes
he's doing the swim, gesticulating
six easy payments, order now

must be the land, this desert
empty space, can't tell how big it is
tumbled weed at the ends of etchings
unless they found water
worries about water

thanks hes.. just back from another road quest. 21 new dirt roads through the arid light. the lunar crater site in central nevada was amazing...

pulled and written (quickly) this morning from some of my trip notes. a little repetitive, loose, had to torque it a bit...

two lanes into glow
dimensionless eyes
mythical metaphysical
mythologize sand and light
you always do that

biggest sin is a motel room and cable
hucksters, bail bondsmen under rocks
rough country ahead, and the preachers
gesticulating, he's doing the swim
temptations, real estate schemes
six easy payments, order now

must be the desert
open space, can't tell how big
tumbled weed on the etchings
returned to heat and scrub
unless they found water
the desert has no water

yea manz, the second one is tighter....reminded me of the Nicolas Cage, Dennis Hopper flick, Red Rock West....this amazing twisted series of events that's as layered as the rocks themselves ......the landscape should have gotten a billing like the actors.....harsh characters in harsh country, mysterious, unrelenting......nothing like a good road trip to stimulate the imagination......

very nice...both the orginal and its offspring: awesome to enjoy the evolution of inherited thought from one step to the next, very rich together. and awesome in their words, thoughts, vistas. thanks.

thanks steve, joel. I see strong points of both versions. hard to describe those spaces and their effects. they do seem "dimensionless," hard to fix any sort of scale. oh sure you get the occasional ranch across the wide gaps, but how close? small splotch of green on the auburn seas. if I made any "mistake" on this swing, it was not picking one of these seas and camping a while... bent on "exploration," what's down the next path...

still though, too many motels. should have had at least one more night under the stars in the back of the truck. when I hit tonopah, that's when I got the vegas station, and sure enough, after 11:30, it was the ambulance chasers and yes, bail bondsmen ads . . . "been bad? call dad!". . . and then a choir and a preacher in a nice blue suit preaching about "temptation." a trip . . .

I'll try to post some pics . . . thanks again.
