best laid plans

Post by saw » October 23rd, 2010, 11:35 am

we had peanut butter
and baloney sandwiches again
we're saving up for college
I even sold my morning jacket
on e-bay, I'm not obverse
to sacrifice, suffice to say
the white rabbit has the deep
hole blues and the red hot chicken
is as cold as a neighborhood banker,
the wolf is blowing hard at the door
his basket is empty and he's pissed
his diamond encrusted canines
glisten like sacred white light
as I prepare for the warm ride
sister rosetta said so, so did
trampled rose, they told me just
last week my fortune lies elsewhere,
le bourgeois gentilhomme
gave me a free ticket, imagine that
first class on the hellbound train
so please tell mama and all the folks
back home, i'm down to seeds and stems,
the bodhisattva boogie has lost
it's punch, and george foreman and I
are selling little hamburger machines together
waiting for a sign, can we get a witness
how about an alibi, that rope-a-dope shit
left me delirious, but don't think twice
about it, really, that could hurt your head
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

you're certainly not poor with the written word, steve... and that alone should keep you warm on cold and dark winter nights when the winds howl thru the northern windows masked by your poems, defending light from writer's block.
