Just wanna be free

Post by hester_prynne » November 27th, 2010, 5:16 pm

We're down on it.
Searchin trash cans,
tradin food stamps,
for weed.

Success is keepin mellow.
While men in suits,
fuck things up,
for greed.

Still got our souls here.
Still cry in each other's eyes,
hands-holdin strong,
just wanna be free.

problem is, we try to sell it to us,
make us fight for it against us
and freedom becomes diluted
or at least rendered paradox

beautiful economy hester....a snapshot of our current situation, which seems to worsening as I type....yes, success is keepin mellow.....and that too is gettin harder to do......I like the subtle rhyme at the end of the first two stanzas.........the ending reminded me of the very brief album filler for the band Spirit, Why Can't I Be Free.....subdued.... like your poem
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Parsimonious, aren't you--with words? And with few of them, a good job. jim

You can only be as free
as the chains will allow you to be.
The road to happiness: Perseverance, Endurance and a whole lot of Hope.

I had a little chain
around my little wrist
that caused a little pain:
I got a little pissed
because it wasn't just.
I pissed upon the chains
and rotted them with rust.
Now freedom just remains;
I'll keep it free or bust.

Who says...
The man searchin trash cans
Trading food stamps
While expressing real life
Over a bowl-shared by several souls
Is the man who is not free

The one in the Monkey suit
over ran by greed
Who has lost himself completely
In the mix of money and power
That is not free

I'd rather myself be a poor pot smoking beggar
Then a pretentious greedy wealthy man.

We find ourselves in banana peels
and blackened romaine lettuce.
The chains tighten around us,
rotting vegetation thrown lazily at our feet
by the people who live in glass houses.
The road to happiness: Perseverance, Endurance and a whole lot of Hope.

When I speak, Pillow and Mellow rhyme perfectly...

Success is keepin mellow.
Success is sleepin's pillow.
