crossway
they sent me to a crossway
across the island several miles
later with marinas and sailboats
into a landfill or a barge,
we backed the dump truck,
and FUCK, there was this very
heavy building and there was
this claw, this claw, picking up
plastic bags of garbage
like child car seats, and debris,
and it was sort of like back-hoe
only 3x the size, but anyway
this thing was like the picture of
an arm that could spread thirty
feet and
everything
was mixed
up and i looked
at a cup of plastic items
and have you ever looked at
something like this and remember
the history of it like you see a claw
go up and down and it's like history
seeping through the economy
somewhere down into
the below the earth, buried
on many levels and it's not even
paid for yet because it's already
in the dump and they're upside down
in their credit cards and they're buried
alive in debt and it's all about money yanno?
and so
i was wondering how much is in the dump
which is actually making money?
much of what is buried may still have
brand new price tags on them and they've
only been bought, never been worn
and each shovel load is a screen of pixels
taken from space and i saw the claw and i asked
myself in the middle of fucking summer
when everyone was out buying stuff
to put under the christmas trees
was it all bought on credit
and people still owe money
or it which is sorta a metaphor
about the rotting nature of humanity
itself and people taking and extra turn
to hang themselves on the cross and
die only to be resurrected again
for another try.

When I scrolled down to post a reply, off to the left was a picture of a stream flowing between huge boulders. Why did I think, There is Doreen's stream of consciousness? I'll have to look at that a while. jim

Re: crossway
Jim, I can't keep up with my own stream of consciousness, so sometimes I represent it with the animated avatar I'm using today just in case I can get a splash of it on me which cleans my spirit in some kind of way I can't quite explain. This piece is a representation of other people's stream of consciousness, me being simply the poet, as reporter & documenter, writing it down then elaborating on it with some conclusions.
Be careful if you happen to ever be in a room with me and begin speaking. I might steal your words, too.
Thanks for reading.

Re: crossway
the dumps, where all the crosses go
where all the religious crap ends up
the junk Jesus the plaster Buddha
the Macy's Christmas tree
civilization is now one huge dump
of the Gods,
but wait, I could put the plaster Buddha
in the middle of the road, and wait to see
if they run over the Buddha when they see
him...on the road.

Re: crossway
i hung lights around
the Bodhi tree,
decorated my cross
with a red heartstring tied tight
in an bowed knot, got down on my knees
to place the gift of love worship,
totally unwrapped, opened like
misplaced luggage found in a landfill,
rescued... to make art from
the debris.

Re: crossway
its all art from the debris
its all a rescue mission
its all about heart trees
its all poetry on knees
on the wrapping leaves
put another thread
on the road alter
the only gift is love
even if its found in the dump
one lump or two, hump hump

Re: crossway
I guess when we start off as kids with that "25 cents gets you a chance to pick up a toy with The Claw, even though you always loose your 25 cents" game in the front of the supermarket, we must be putting ourselves in line to raise the dump claws of the future. We give adulthood from birth, when childhood would do us grown-ups better...especially since maturity never seems doled out as liberally....
