designer plagues

flu nearly got me one year
funny, no teevee plague that year
no pig flu, bird flu, no big pharma drama
new ills on the drawing board

the bar has cable
little house of plagues
casey went off to the war
rush went to drink at the bar
always going off to drink and fight
can't remember why in the morning

empire was nearly complete
just a little more random murder
sharp graphics now, they prove anything
cronkite's face always came in fuzzy
tweak the rabbit ears

casey went to war
rush went to the bar
sit and watch the war
new plagues on new drugs
nation of incarceration
need bigger prisons
to lock up the herb
a flatter stomach
whiter teeth

there came a time
during the run for bankruptcy
during the time all the houses
were lost to the barons
of Capitalia, handled so effortlessly
by the same thugs excused
from paying their fair share
that the news was no longer news
just scripted verse to calm
citizen fear or flare it up as needed,
the media whores wore red dresses
paraded around the fancy hi-def
neighborhood with pie chart graphic
tranquilizers in a designer basket
to be handed out to the children

your poem inspired this stream mnaz.......it's almost as if the population has become so frail it would rather just lie down and die, than demonstrate ....immobolized by the propaganda of the media and the wonderful electronic gadgetry they are afraid of losing if they make too much noise.....woe is us...

This is scary, because it is so true.
I can't say I like it. But, I'll bet neither can you.
You didn't intend it to be likable, you meant for it to make a statement and it did. Like a documentary showing the state of the world, you can't pull yourself away, but you aren't going around afterward saying,
"Wow, I really enjoyed that; it was so much fun"
