for Zhu Yufu

Post by Kailashana » January 18th, 2012, 12:17 pm

poets are intuitive creatures,
we don't even know some of the things
we know,
twittering in the trees
with manifestos of silence,
bombing the inner plane
with
unrecognized faces
and telling stories of the
yet-to-come.

somehow
we make sense
of the senseless, find the abiding spirit in the
soulless,
write poems of the undiscovered land
until our days of sun
are done.

A translation of a segment of Zhu Yufu's poem:

"It’s time

It’s time, Chinese people!

It’s time,

The square is ours,

The feet are ours,

It’s time to use our feet to go to the square and make a choice. "

And this is the story from the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/18/world ... &ref=world

One of my recent *lovers* is a scientist who wrote wonderful poetry, moved to China, probably because there's less restrictions in the scientific world. I don't remember reading any political poems of his. But I do question our country's politics of business-as-usual in light of ongoing purges of dissidents. I do question the end justifying the means.
