1978

Post by mnaz » April 30th, 2012, 5:20 pm

i think 1978 was when it turned
when organic succumbed to chemical
when truth became a controlled substance
when music went mechanical, not from creation
played by machines on machines for machines
not on instruments anymore

the crackdown was in its seventh year
you could hear it in the soulless disco loop
the disease of money, the gray steel towers
like that scene in rockers when dirty harry
storms the dj booth and yanks the disco vinyl
puts on the soaring roots rock, nah machine

i think it was 1978, or maybe 278
when it went numb and got away from us
when kings decreed obscenities to hold sacred
when earth meditation was forbidden
it could have gone either way
but it went numb

and shortly thereafter it all went digital, and it got even colder !! ... haha.

yeah, the rockers movie sparked me--- the late '70s jamaican scene. there's a great scene where horsemouth (who played drums for burning spear) and dirty harry (richard hall) take over the dj booth and yank the disco record (they called it "soul music," but it wasn't) and put on the rockers.... and man, what a difference. an awakening . . .

thankz arcadia, truckin' and dadio...
