the ride

grannny had been in the car for a long time- that alzheimers was kicking in hard core-she was in the fifth grade
and couldnt find her books
didnt know where her classes were
she graduated from UCLA in 1926
she had a master s degree in english

but none of that helped her in the end

now i have my 3rd husband s mother with alz
she told me yesterday
some things that were true
but unexpected

life can be very strange
i wonder how someone can leap between realities like that

when she was in the car
she talked about being in the tent during the first movies ever made
before she married a movie star

so granny
must be helping me now
i was her only grand daughter
she trusted me to care for her
i loved her
but today there are streets with no names on my heart
people get sick and die'
so i walk this way
knowing if you can hear me
you will call
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
