there was a way of living
more real than I had known
a communion of long haired men
and long cotton dressed women

a mango-sky-union of sun worshipers
with new ideas and music
they had all headed south for something else
on U.S.1....oh yea, Route 1

from Ft. Kent, Maine
to Key West, Florida
and suddenly my teenage angst
disappeared in sunsets

beautiful as a baby's smile,
and I just want to tell you
Laid Back....
can become a way of life
