doctor henry grows a bean patch

[sweetwater]

nearing now the harvest

the autumn frost of grapes
as wine to ice the occasion
of spices in the grass

before the leaves turn again
into a walt whitman poem
or a bean patch
and the essay that changed the world

the colour of the seasons
change in the reflex of my motor skills
to bump my head against the wall

more as the accident to explain
the history of sipping coffee
and growing rain drops
