reconciliation

I could have worked today
followed the slender pathway
carved for me by societies expectations
but i said fuck it

my courage is boundless,
i am aware of the bills
that they will not give up, leave me
for another country

forget about me, like little ex-pats
of demanding paper
that somehow developed a conscience
but please don't get me wrong

I'm not against paying my fair share
it's just what that fair-share should be
that i am in dispute with, i have zero voice
in the cost of bread and beans

some royal CEO that believes he has been anointed
to a life of eternal entitlement, to an obscene bonus
for fucking with people's lives better than his co-workers
delights in his delegation to underling sheep

to keep things just out of my reach
i feel like an old greyhound that has lost a few steps
chasing a mechanical carrot, and just as I get close
to the prize, he speeds up the line

and if we use General Motors as a role model
we may all get recalled for defects and scrapped to the bone yard
so, i am playing hooky today.....
i need time to reconcile all of this
