piece of mercy

Post by the mingo » January 7th, 2015, 12:42 am

i have a fishbowl on the kitchen bar
seven tadpoles live in that bowl
and one of some kind of bait fish
the fish always notices if i come close
the tadpoles couldn't care less
outside the kitchen window
it's 12 degrees above zero -
the tadpoles got here through my woman
she called from work one day
and said how would you like some tadpoles?
no i said & she brought them home anyway
and one fish -
it's january
the tadpoles are on their way to being frogs
the situation is forcing me to be a stone cold killer
i have two choices
neither one of them favoring the tadpoles
or the one fish
and neither choice allows for life to continue
i either take the fishbowl and heave the water
tadpoles fish & all out the backdoor into the snow
where everything will freeze quickly to death
before morning light
or i take the fishbowl
and dump everybody into the toilet
and flush -
they will live longer but - yeah
the tadpoles don't know what's coming at them
their existence is wretched
their death will be wretched
it's a piece of mercy that tadpoles
don't know shit

my Nancy has a big heart - what that works out to is if there's killing to be done she puts that in my lap - that's how i ended up with Bean the black & tan coonhound - Nancy's niece laid that one one on her - told her if she didn't take him he would have to be put down because they could no longer keep him - he's laying on the couch now having some kind of coonhound dream - one day follows another -

that poem speaks to me today---maybe it would have spoken differently to me last week----and later I'll get other things out of it. With everything that has been going on in the world at large these lines resonate

the tadpoles don't know what's coming at them
their existence is wretched
their death will be wretched
it's a piece of mercy that tadpoles
don't know shit
