often momentous events are quiet
like this morning's snow
you sit reading a book
time turns its pages
outside the snow accumulates
no aural fanfare
just white powder
a most elementary substance
H2O
two hydrogen one oxygen
the bond like a reader and a story
but there is no foreseeable ending
the molecules are not subject
at this time to electrolysis
and there are too many for experiment
the snow accumulates
with the seconds
so much melt and freeze going on
in the hobbits of my front yard
in the street up the hill
the woods in back
under logs
overhead on branches
the white powder like some meme
takes over the world
puts on boots
stealthily attacks
the neighbors must live with this nature
that descends on us all
