this too

Post by whoaisme » March 13th, 2015, 1:03 am

it will get so quiet
you may think
your voice anything
less than rivers,
tabernackle,
spine
lifted
luminous.

you may think
you don't belong
here: it will get so
sad you may think
yourself away, sitting on
a stone bench,
suicide bridge Portland, OR
crying into your knees

this too is okay.

rosary becomes therapist
bookshelf becomes temple
the sorrow is no anchor
(when they say they cannot see
god are they are not looking
at you?)

it will get so quiet
your thoughts will
produce cigarette buts,
empty pill bottles,
coping lacerated,
drunken voice mails
to the wrong numbers,
dunce'd dial tones,
smothered
smiles with
hope and fear

and this is all okay

thank you for your comment, Ton.

but this poem isn't about suicide, at least that was not my intention. i am just trying to say it is okay to be sad.

in Portland there's a bridge called "suicide bridge" because people jump off it.

i once drove by and saw a woman sitting on a stone bench crying "into her knees"

perhaps that wasn't very clear, which is my fault.

first rain here since november - my snowblower is getting soaked - I'm anything but sad 8)
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
