Until The Last Soldier Dies

Post by Brian mclaughlin » November 13th, 2015, 5:59 pm

There will be no peace
until the last soldier dies
for the youth who fight
have swallowed their lies

No it's not one sided
the fault lies with both
they've brainwashed the children
into taking an oath

They're to fight to the death
practice that eye for an eye
killing women and children
without ever knowing the why

They've been told it's about faith
and on this they should stand
but the truth of the matter
it's really about the land

As long as the land
hangs in the balance of war
there will never be peace
it's politicians keeping score

So it's time now to play war
your leaders beat the drums
it's their power they seek
without care how it comes

Go forth to your death
whether land, sea or sky
the only time we'll know peace
is when the last soldier dies
When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak. ~ Audre Lorde

nice piece- honoring- beautiful=deep- liked it :oops:
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---

Sadly all too often soldiers are convinced they are fighting for freedom, as the real reasons are concealed behind the banners of patriotism.....soldiers are often pawns on hawk's chessboard

as you outlined.... No good wars, Brian,.......... welcome to S8

I'll have to think about this and then get back with a reply.

War exists for many
to further agendas of a few;
'thru our conditioned millennia;
'thru the pages of holy books;
swallowed as "human nature";
the state-run institution
of mass-killing.

War exists because
we accept it.
We wage it.
We.

There will never be peace till the last human dies.
Or so it seems to me. Pardon my digression. Brilliant poem. thank you.

mnaz:
From the American Scholar list of neglected books
“The Sexual Cycle of Human Warfare by Major Norman Walter, published in London at the Mitre Press in 1950. This book is shamefully neglected. Indeed, I doubt if more than a handful of people know it or know of it. And yet its thesis is original and highly suggestive. It is, briefly, that war is a psychobiological phenomenon, not a political one, and that it can best be studied in terms of such genetic phenomena as hybridization, exogamy and the like. Nature explodes the human group with the aim of genetic recombination. Soldiers never know why they’re fighting (‘We’re here because we’re here because we’re here because we’re here’ was a song of the First World War) and politicians think they know. But the real motives for war lie at the biological level. War, like sex, is ineradicable from human society because is very close to sex.”
No less known now than it was in 1970, Walter’s book is out of print and mysterious—it’s rare to find an account of it as descriptive as Burgess’s.
"Natural selection, as it has operated in human history, favors not only the clever but the murderous." Barbara Ehrenreich

Sorry, but I call bullshit on the good Major. Justified obscurity.

Why do you think? Do you agree that war is nothing more than some sort of biological/sexual urge? Seriously?

Sure would be a convenient p.o.v. to harness for politicians who like to start wars, wouldn't it?

Btw, who is Burgess?

Of course they do. Wait. No, actually you're right.
War exists because
we accept it.
We wage it.
We.
Yeah, fuck it, never mind.
It's just like sex anyway.

I know what you are saying,it is not the person of the solider, it is the solider heart of the father who has been and yet will send his son. It is clear that war is savage,it grows more so ,they talked abut isis burning some folks alive , what in the hell do they think happened when we bombed japan,we could have set off at sea and said see .You keep hammering my friend. I read the nonsense on the"other sight" can not handle that any more Augh, good to see you!
