WAITING

Post by theirishsea » April 15th, 2016, 10:21 am

don't want to tempt the powers that be
don't want to step on the cracks between sidewalk slabs
don't want to spill salt or act like a Greek tragic hero

perhaps God (or gods) takes an infinite interest
in this finite world that gives us so much suffering,
worry, self-examining, bravado

when the proverbial sh*t happens
we are so helpless
the medical technicians, doctors take over
we sit on the edge of our seats
watch the drama as very interested spectators
wring the tears from our towels
and hope, if not inoculated with faith,
that all will be well for
now

yes, we know that life comes eventually to an
end
the stars burn out
and we won't be there for the wisps of smoke
long before that our vision will dim
and then be extinguished unless
there is another plane where the flickers of our soul
burn
hopefully in a loving heaven
not in a feared hell
but all that morality
so important here where we can injure
each other with stupidity
ill words or silence
or worse
might be insignificant in a nether world
where we possess Infinite Love
or, excuse me, are possessed by it

today
sitting in the waiting room
or donning the mask, the cheap paper-thin plastic gown
watching monitors
that are just waves of rhythm
changing numbers

the drip from the bag into the tube
and into the mysterious caverns of the body

we pray, we hope
we sit on the edge of our seats
fully conscious of the strength and weakness of life

A note---my son is in critical care in the hospital but things have taken a turn for the better. He is conscious, recovering from a diabetic coma complicated by a virulent strain of the flu. He has a way to go to regain his strength but all signs are positive now.

I don't want to dwell too much on the personal circumstances here. I sometimes write to cope ( as I'm sure most of us here do) when dealing with life's challenges. I could only write the poem above because I could detach myself a little from the situation. Okay, enough.

Poems are prayers in my mind ,as are all thoughts in a living universe. Thank you for sharing reality and honest feelings, in a time of make believe we need to be alive and present ,even more so in time of difficulty and struggle. The poem wants me to tell you that I know something , I am not sure how. I have been across the divide. It is more wonderful than I can tell you , but simply this, it is bigger than the night sky ,wonderful and deep, real beyond our real ,filled with love.
peace

well stated Danno , especially under the circumstances....private message me if you need anything....I've spent a great deal of time in hospitals with 2 kids getting leukemia and know the ropes....know the agony and disruption to a life....very sorry to hear about this turn...please keep me posted some way....I'm available for any task that needs to be done...
beyond that I will be sending healing energy your way...as leaf said, poems are prayers, and sharing your words is good for you and for your son....much peace
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
