Drill Baby Drill! (The Take)

Post by mnaz » June 1st, 2016, 1:59 pm

Note: Originally "inspired" (gah..) by some gung-ho sloganeering that surfaced during the 2008 Presidential Campaign (revised a bit).

Gouge the rock for gold.
Blast hills, blow their tops.
Spread freedom with a stick.
Blow up ridges, look for terror.
Topple statues and make speeches.
Drive the Hummers up to Rushmore.
Drill for oil in Roosevelt's granite face.
Strafe, blast and burn, drill baby drill!
Raise shining shrines to material gods.
Pile debt on debt, leverage and stack.
Pillage and preach buzz word speech.
Go man go, preach man preach!

corporation's appetite in the name of stockholders that remain nameless to the rest of us is insatiable...these companies mindlessly kill the things that sustain life...including the big enchilada, the planet....Michael Steel, the ex-lt. governor of my home state, Maryand, that became the head of the RNC quipped Drill Baby Drill and handed it off to Airhead Palin...

Part of NASA's missions are finding another suitable planet.....how fucking crazy is that ?

loved the Steve Cutts stuff judih.....the power of art personified....

For some reason my mind flashed to Country Joe and the Fish

The oil is now microscopic tiny plastic beads
in every drop of water of our delta
I see it for my self with my microscope
do not lie to me
yes the average person believes the lie
they have no eye but I
know the truth
we will learn
one way or another
mother grows weary
a magnetic storm will rage
the sun must rearrange
it is a change
turn the page
the poet rage
then
distilled by a reality
the green world will return
remember the last time

Thanks all.

Judih: Thanks for the Steve Cutts link. I hadn't heard of him, but that was amazing stuff. He pretty much has most of it nailed. And in this insane spiral we keep riding, inspiration for his art must be endless...

I also recommend the art of Chris Jordan:

Especially check out the "Running the Numbers" series. Amazing. Appalling.

Saw: Michael Steel huh? So Palin didn't come up with that one after all. Not too surprising I suppose. We're a looong way from setting ourselves up to trash another suitable planet (assuming one could be found), so the ol' mothership will at some point start pushing pack, tamping all of this madness down a bit. As George Carlin pointed out a long time ago, the decision to "save the earth" really isn't ours in the end. If it came down to it, She could shed us like tufts of dead dog hair ...

Leaf: Yes, the more balanced evolution needs to come pretty quickly. I wonder if we're up to it? Am I up to it?
