poetry is a space ship

Post by revolutionR » February 9th, 2017, 6:29 pm

poetry is not unlike a space ship
that is hidden by the clouds
or poetry is like a bum
looking in the trash
for a morsel to eat
poetry is like a holy man
in India sitting next to the river
poetry is what a soldier does
after the guns go silent
and sits down on a log
and describes the hell of war

I became a poet
because I was against war
I was also interested in space ships
I was like a bum looking in the trash
for poems, I thought about holy men
in India, I hung out in libraries
and on the street where there were
a lot of homeless people
and people that had been let out
of mental hospitals

a poet is another way of saying
that I did not fit into society
so I wanted to write about it
I lived in hotels sometimes
I walked a thin line between
madness and coolness
I had my copy of Season in Hell
and I imagined I was Rimbaud
in a past life

I hung out with crazy people and poets
and I learned how to meditate
but mostly I read a lot of strange books
and sometimes I took walks along
the boardwalk when the roller coaster
was silent and the ocean reflected the moon
