I remember walking down Haight street in 67'
the first time, it was just as I imagined
girls with flowers in their hair everywhere
this was right after the summer of love
that day was a vision for the future
I remember the San Francisco sky being
so blue that day, maybe the bluest
I had ever seen, and the clouds seemed alive
it was the energy on the street of love
but that vision was happening at the same time
the Vietnam war was going on, we wanted peace
but the powers that be wanted to take that
vision of peace, and turn it into social control
soon the Haight with its flower child vision
was flooded with hard drugs, and hippies
were becoming speed freaks and junkies
and the once bright colorful Haight
became like desolation row
that first time I walked down Haight street
i did not know I would become a poet
and that seven years later I would be
walking around North Beach
looking for my poem, the Frisco sky
still held that magic blue
I remember walking down Haight street

Re: I remember walking down Haight street
Hippies became, or yielded to, the speed and junkie others, because you knew those drugs would become more popular than acid, and then eventually the punks in the '80s on Haight. I remember dropping my sister off at an anarchist pad back then, then continuing on down the 5 to LA-LA on my first paid vacation after finding work after college. Only to get in a fight with my best friend at Disneyland, the happiest place on earth. I really had no clue...

Re: I remember walking down Haight street
As I hve written on here, I was living five miles from Disneyland
when it was opened, years later I dropped acid on New Years eve
68' and went to Disneyland with some friends, it was a crazy
ride for sure, but I had a kind of psychic experience, that I
saw underground tunnels under the park, now I know
that there really were underground tunnels. I was living
a five minute walk from Height street in the mid eighties.
I had been involved with an occult group for awhile, because
I had read a book by Robert Anton Wilson called The Cosmic Trigger.

I just missed you by a few streets I guess, even way back then (which really wasn't so long ago)...
