A Letter to My Dead Grandmother

Post by Trevor » April 18th, 2005, 3:12 am

Remember how you told me
that Saturday afternoon
in front of the television -
the glare of the sweaty pastor
watching us -
you loved Jesus
and he saved one of your breasts.
I think it was the left.
Yeah it was sunny out
but wasn’t an important detail
because your house smelled
like roast beef
cooked well done
and you had just told me
I would burn in hell
as you wrote a cheque
made out to God.

her grand daughter's
jesus freaks all
preaching messianic visions
how wonderful to be a Jew
on her deathbead she made it clear
she wanted a kosher funeral
those plain wood coffins
were such a good bargin
an offer she couldn't refuse
and I know carriage returns do not make a poem

nice work, the trouble with a nice poem is it inspires every idiot and his brother to try his hand

Hi Truck'n,

"nice work, the trouble with a nice poem is it inspires every idiot and his brother to try his hand"

Well it's said that impersonation is the sincerest form of flattery...but with you I'll take exception...lol..jk...thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

I missed this earlier! See what rainy days can do? Rainy days and Sundays!

I like this. It's humorous and poignant. Touching and wry!

Good job! :D

er...

"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky"

er...these were the only song lyrics I could think of on such short notice....sorry if they're not 100% correct, I'm workin' on memory here and sadly mine is lacking!

I used to walk with my head in the clouds but I kept getting struck by lightning!
Now my head twitches and I drool alot. Anonymouse
