ink from beyond the grave

Post by saw » April 26th, 2018, 10:03 am

why this obsession ?
this documentation-trance-dance
certainly this is not a gift,
posterity my ass, this is madness....
to never run out of ballpoint pens

need I really explain though ?
am I committing some crime ?
am I guilty of wasting so many hours
with writing implements and yellow pads
as to miss all the possibilities hadn't I done this

have I been so deluded that I didn't see
no one in the end would really care about this mess
someone will simply call 1-800-Junk to dispose
of these boxes of scribbled mania, from
another helpless poet addict with scratched spectacles

yet here I am burning the virtual whale oil
deep in the dark evenings of timeless time
with dancing glimmers of ancient light
flickering across the page,.. ghosts!... in white dresses
from the sirens of chain-link verse....ink !

from beyond the grave
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

We've all written this theme... why do we do it? What's the purpose? A legacy? Will they throw it all away? BUT you KNOW why you write. You write because you have to. It's not about leaving a legacy. (Though your kids will truly enjoy exploring what you've written when you're gone)... But you're NOT gone! This is not writing from "beyond the grave." You're very much alive! Part of your being alive means you write because that's part of who you are. Don't worry about the why of it, just keep doing it! I love reading what you write. Many people do. And it's healthy to write.

I don't do it any more myself. I don't know why. I wish I knew. I miss it.

thanks for the kind, reasoned words doreen
it is an obsession...and with all "addictions"
we have questions from time to time....is this
good for me....or for anybody !?...HA HA
thanx again for the thoughtful feedback

It just has to be. One of the favorite things I've written and posted here was about how pissed off and mystified I got on the road in some desert motel room when I was inspired to put pen to paper, but couldn't find my bag of cheap pens that I'd packed just for such an occasion. (I finally found a pen in a desk drawer next to the Gideon's Bible, but it was too late, except it probably wasn't ...)
