she said I want you to sketch me
in the chair, on the floor, across the sofa
and I said sure, do you have some outfits in mind ?
lingerie, formal attire

she said she'd rather be nude
so I sharpened my pencils in record time
but couldn't find a damn drawing tablet anywhere
though I knew I had a half a dozen in the house

so I grabbed a pad of graph paper
and began to put her body
into little blue squares, Bold Strokes
but not one was a straight line

No, all she had was curves
and she moved too much anyway
and she talked incessantly about politics
the weather, religion

I only caught a word here and there, it was
one of those one-sided conversations
because my mind was elsewhere, honestly
it was everywhere, that had nothing to do with talking

her voice was like an adult
in a Charlie Brown special. musically atonal
and she said, hey...you're not paying attention
and I replied, "The hell I'm not !"

more often than not
or you wouldn't be describing blue grid paper

but the mind continues it's focus not offering answers...
