I was afraid
I'd totally dried up
and nothing would be
arriving on the noon train
I worried I was Done, that I was
just another member of the old bone yard
with a disappointing tombstone
that read Once Bombastic, He Ran Out of Things to Say
where all the other gravestones said
He Used to Matter, or He Used to String
Words Together, He Was a Tailor
and He'd Stitch You Up in No Time
now just a number killed by a Dry Spell
waiting for the ravenous literary maggots
to feast on his shriveled lips
But luckily I wrote this piece of garbage
and I'm still here.....and the maggots can eat my poem !
though I'm not sure how long it will
ultimately distract the little fuckers.....
nor satisfy their insatiable desires
Distracting Maggots

one step ahead
just one step ahead of 'em
prayer for distraction
just one step ahead of 'em
prayer for distraction

can't exhale all the time
even Pavarotti had to pause to inhale
to punctuate his song
with space
