He did not seem like all that funny of a guy to me; sitting there with his stupid glasses and his fat boy Salt & Pepper hat. But he said he was a comedian, and the nerdy looking guy up on the stage ranting on and one about mistreatment of women in Arab countries was hurting my ears if I listened completely, so I tried to talk to him. I said:
“Say something funny!” I was drunk and did not think it would get under his skin, I just forgot that comics hate to be asked to say something funny.
“When I am up I will.” He said. I guess Comic’s do not have to be funny all the time, or even have a sense of humor while they are not on stage, twas true in this case.
“Are there ever good poets that come here?” I asked the guy next to me. He had cracked a smile that turned into a laugh.
“No. Not really, well, you know they are learning.” I shook my head yes to this.
It was time for comedy boy. He sat up on a stool that he should not have sat (do to his extreme fatness) on and read out of a book. The only part I heard was him making fun of the movie “Dances with wolves” apparently he had been working his routine since the early 90’s or whenever that and I must admit, horrible fucking movie came out.
“That guy up there?” I turned to the guy next to me. “Does anyone find him funny?”
“I chuckle from time to time.”
“Look at that! Is that Paul Martin smashed at the bar?” I asked the bartender.
“No, that’s my boss, but he is smashed.” The Bartender said with a smile. I tried to get the comedian’s attention to show him the funny picture. I thought a comedian would appreciate something like that, but no.
I got up and read a poem (some wierd poem with alot of the F word and S word.) and played a made up song that I made up on the spot. I was drunk as hell and when I stopped everyone clapped, and then just to piss them all off I played another made up song in a Bob Dylan and/or Tom Waits voice. Then they were all extremely scared of me. That poetry reading-Open Mic was just not my scene.

Heyyyy.... Geoff!
This is a great report! I enjoyed reading it! I felt like I was there with you. You described it well.
I'm so happy to hear you went to the poetry reading and got up on stage!
Best part is that you made up those songs! I love it when someone can do that!
Give us an example.... Make up some song lyrics on the spot and type them here, OK? Purty please?
