Stone The Crows
on the box, oblivion
in the heart, the other
Janis Joplin I think
the more obscure one
Maggie Bell oh Maggie Bell....
as the power of the that bluesy voice
makes me forget everything,
I think of the Rockumentary
crank it up to eleven, and laugh
to myself....there are no witnesses,
as the volume goes up
my stress goes down
on this evening of erasure
candlelight dancing on the walls
the mood makes the call,
nothing to be done about it...
involuntary surrender...
at times it can be low and mellow,
but not tonight
not tonight
not tonight
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
you may end up where you are heading
Re: not tonight
crank it up, man - transcendence is a gift from beyond, a doggie treat from the gods, a synchronicity twixt us & cosmos - it's like when you're out hiking & come upon a white-tailed deer that takes a moment to look you over before bolting; or a mama turtle filling a nest with eggs; or a patch of high-bush blueberries you share with some foraging birds... a moment of connection. Music can take you there too - quiet or loud, visceral or cerebral... a journey's a journey, regardless of where it takes you. Me, there's just something about Bobby Watson's alto solo in "Time Will Tell" with Art Blakey that says "play it again" no matter how many times I've heard it.... magical...

float in a boat on a river of taj mahal, keb mo and the master BB. bluesing slow and deep with the aroma of deep fried and magnolia blossom.
I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing than teach 10,000 stars how not to dance.

dizzy gillespie lowers his horn & nods to his piano player - your turn, his smile says - and off the kid goes - lalo schifrin, not a jazzman but a classicist, paris conservatory, paid his tuition learning the trade in clubs & dives - a composer at heart, but man, his solo in "Kush" (the LIVE version) is a whole movie soundtrack in 3 minutes 5... who knew this youngster would go on to score films & tv, including one of the most iconic themes of either, in 5/4 time yet...
Saw bb, taj, "iceman" collins - live shows, veggies fresh from a garden, not a can... even their mistakes are worth paying to see...
