simple pleasures

Post by sasha » March 14th, 2026, 11:15 am

waking up to an inch of snow when the NWS was calling for 4-8
a clean shave - stubble-free, even beside the Adam's apple
that first sip of morning coffee - hot, black, no sugar
the last shovelful of snow clearing the approach to your mailbox
feeding chickadees by hand
the sound of peepers
the first day of the year you go outside in a tee shirt
meeting a friendly dog while on a walk
rescuing a turtle from the road
toads
wild fruit
a just-because email from an old friend
completing a chore you'd dreaded
watching children play
lending a hand
having enough

.

the crackle of a fire
nose bump from a cat
watching robins pull worms
rest after a hard walk
a smile from a stranger
music
I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing than teach 10,000 stars how not to dance.

moonlight
the smell of balsam
finding something you thought you'd lost
the *snap* of the carabiner clipping the water bottle to my belt
a long-overdue haircut
fresh bedsheets
