losing my religion

Post by firsty » August 25th, 2006, 6:41 pm

god of war
people of peace
there is a beauty unseen
or so i've been told
but the beautiful thing that i know
is the hand that i hold
the hands of my sons
the hands of my wife
footprints washed away in floods
but the feeling in my hands never dies
god of war
people of peace
god of worship
people of corpses
we worship war
we kill the beauty we can see
thats not how my god would have made it be
so i'll go on
worshipping hands
thank you very much.
and knowing i'm so eager to fight cant make letting me in any easier.

is god is a war god?...
unless said god appears before me, personally,
you know, with the white light and maybe a thunderbolt or two
to emphasize the point,
i'm not buying.

god: "saul, saul, why persecutest me?"

saul: "i was going to ask you the same thing"....

I nestled in the corner of a pew—

Post by joel » August 26th, 2006, 4:01 pm

I nestled in the corner of a pew—
my back erect, attentive to the bench
that held by spine like ivy on the bricks
who rose in walls around, affected some
thing like a stance of pride; but all too tired,
I leaned my pride on rest as if I were
not more than shade raised up across the earth,
raised up across the faith of peaceful worth.
I nestled in the corner where I’m sure
of stillness settled, heaven gay attired:
eternal clouds that witness many come,
all benedight, beneath the candle flicks
and earnest prayers— and realize unclenched
my thighs, too tired for fight, still flight eschew.
"Every genuinely religious person is a heretic, and therefore a revolutionary" -- GBShaw
