Imported sparrows, so ubiquitous

Imported sparrows, so ubiquitous
and commonly adorned like muddy stains
and topsoil smudges fitted on the North
American deciduous woods, so
simplistic – unobtrusive, plain and small –
no competition for a native flight.
No foggy morning picturewindow loss
when sparrows hide away amiss, across
the misty hidden grayness. Malachite –
bright polished canopies of trees – and all
they native technicolored host: their flow
of vibrancy indigenous is worth
some million sparrows. Yet my gaze remains
transfixed on common friends newbiequitous.*

this is simply wonderful, joel
the sparrow, ubiquitous though she may be, is such a beloved carrier of metaphor. Perhaps that is why she wears symbol so well.
