making the heart into a diamond

Post by e_dog » October 22nd, 2007, 3:48 am

we were deceived about
not being
deceived
you taught us
that
troubles taken
will be
repaid in enjoyed pain

not to have been
bored
is the blessing of man
suffering through
the ecstasies of war
love
sickness unto health

turning the heart
into a stone
with a crystal inside

this was the way
you taught me
to teach
this was the grasp
i never could reach

milk beneath
the earth
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.

be a fool for diamonds
dig the earth for land mines of common carbon

it's just a mineral
something's dead body
some forest's ashes from long ago
something already extinct perhaps

and it's only valuable when it's been hacked away
most of the bulk discarded as trash
high school's title IX athletes to college's anorexic beauty-molds
and just as fragile
and just as unsustainable

pluck that diamond out of your heart
study it
and when you teach geoscience to the earthlings
show them how the diamonds break down on the surface atmosphere
glorified to sit in platinum bands
while they flake off into graphite

diamonds aren't forever
and maybe longer-lasting
will be the thoughts--
original or not--
explored in graphitic alphabetic characteristic lettings-go
