[Lightning Rod]

I have used many methods to induce my thrill
when I was a child I spun in circles or jumped on the bed
I invented grand fantasies from novice erections
and then as a teen I drove fast on motorcycles and in cars

then I hung out in bars and did every drug in the PDR
was fucked half blind in music orgies, I even owned gold at one time
I tried everything from religion to dope to sex to solitary confinement
to writing poems late at night in the gray ink of self-pity.

nothing works but logic and humor and sometimes those will fail
the beaver's tail is flat with industry but mine is pointed like the rat
I've had my bouts with sobriety, but I've been lucky in loves tasted and lost
it's only the cost of transparency, my gods are lenient.
