The Fat Man's Party

i went to a fat man's party
and o what a spread!
plates piled high
with foods from 'round the world -
why, there is a smoked turkey
steamin and ready to eat
fried chicken for all
roasted beast covered with gravy
grilled fillet of swordfish...

boy this fat man
sure put on a spread
vegetables from gardens
all freshly grown -
there were carrots long and straight,
tomatoes in every different color
and potatoes in white and red,
there were snap beans all green
mixed herbs for flavors so wild,
i tasted some okra fried so deep
and the peas i'll never forget...

the fat man had a party
and his bar was filled so full -
bourbons from kentucky
vodka from russia
wines from california and chile
i sampled the beer made in small batches
and waited to toast with french brandy...

the fat man had a party
but i was the only one that showed
his generosity was overwhelming
while my appetite just barely glowed


the fat man was a sad man
he just wanted to see happy smiles
feasts off of beasts
and drinks for all for awhile
desserts of chocolate
whipped cream piled high like everest
and chocolate sprinkles to make you laff

the fat man had a party
and nobody came but me
i tried to keep up with him
but i failed so miserably

the fat man lost his joy
at knowing no one would arrive
the fat man while chewing celery
celebrating that he was alive
alive with only his appetite
to comfort his loneliness
but the fat man invited me...

fat man: a bit generic, vague.....what about a real person, living or dead, or literary.... mythical.....dionysius falstaff king james jabba the hut.... gluttons in dante's inferno........ the next door neighbor the richest man in podunk tejas...fat ladies....jamelah..... ....oliver wendell holmes...a fat sheriff...at xmas dinner....or officer.....burl ives herbert hoover...some ONE not just "fat man"..try a symbol or metaphor
