Lately, yes means no,
up is down.
The girl in the Dunkin' Donuts
is cute and friendly,
but she's family-trained to know
the bigger the smile,
the more apple fritters
I walk out with, and besides
she's Indian to boot
and probably under threat
of slow agonizing death
must only date from a list
of approved candidates.
Her mama has a third eye
that follows me around the shop
scrutinizing my taste in sweets....
and well, yes her daughter
is as tempting a a honey-glazed
on an empty stomach or that first
sip of black coffee in the morning,
but I'm not really interested anyway
'cause I'm all twisted up like a cruller,
in knots wondering why you left
in the first place, 'cause we really had
something special !
Right ? We did have something special,
didn't we ?
Something Special
Something Special
