The Asian Tiger Mosquitoes
carry pints of my obviously tasty blood
away over the course of the summer
but we have learned to co-exist,
it's the price one pays
for writing in a treehouse.
I could spray them with Black Flag
that knocks them out of the air mid-flight,
maybe snort a little for myself,
I could rub a little poison into my pores,
run an extension cord from the house
to plug in a genuine bug zapper,
but citronella candles, though perhaps
less effective are sweeter and somehow
feel less lethal as the bamboo wind chimes
hollow out the white noise of distant door bells
and telephones, and even Beethoven
gets annoying at times....but I can Think in a tree!
Cardinals chirp encouragement from yonder cable line...
Sparrows and Blue Jays stimulate, the sleeping pensive mind...
Squirrels are appreciative, supportive, vocal, and sublime....
The Mosquitos have come to dine.
