Hurricane Dali Pt. 2

[Lightning Rod]

the rats are the first to notice a drop in pressure
they evacuate the sewers and move to high ground
the weatherman stands on the beach with his microphone
and slacks flapping like flags and equivocates
is this a category four or a category five?
the rats just want to stay alive
they sense that this is a surrealist storm
it looks like the perfect, normal storm
but something is different about Hurricane Dali

the flies have grown almost to the size of Hummers
crutches are beginning to fly through the air
lodging themselves in Catholic churches and telephone poles
now it's beginning to rain crucifixes and rabbits like fuzzy hailstones
the wind is a negative wind, it sucks instead of blows
and the El Topo match houses explode

now the melting clocks are running backwards
as the eyewall approaches and the event horizon blurs
The National Hurricane Center doesn't know what to think
this storm has dropped off the radar ladies and gentlemen

(after these messages, we will return to the eye of the hurricane)

everything is calm here
the sky is even blue
open your eyes

I've only seen bits of it on TV, the flapping slacks and oscillating stop signs before the terrible deed is done. I won't go near hurricane alley unless it catches me by surprise.

Negative wind.. Seems I've done that in reverse, drifting one too many ridges toward the coast, and the thickening pressure and fences and threat of on-ramps..

excellent work. you don't get lost in the poem, lrod - you are in firm control.

terrific follow-up to the first installment....this has great potential as
a series....you earn huge creativity points in your contrasts ,as well as
your connections.....this hurricane story has the same magic as
the magic whipped up for Dorothy in Kansas....with limitless possibilities with the Dali angle as the "driving force"....see I can't escape the metaphor......keep 'em comin'......
