.....it's not that deep......I thought the poem excellent.....you don't.....have you ever seen the movie Naked Lunch with Peter Weller playing a Burroughs character, that cracks me up too just does, so does that whole thread, so does Hunter S. Thompson, ya know what -D, simply put it's the absurdity of it all, it's GONZO...pure and simple, nothing heavy ...nothing to analyze...either hits ya or it does not hit you, after a day of walking the razor's edge absurdity becomes laughter...if ya did not laugh ya might go crazy........mark

Mark... I laugh all the time! Laughter is my best friend. I enjoy satire, puns, dark humor, light humor, almost every type of humor there is. With a couple of exceptions. I've never been too fond of slapstick, though I think Dick Van Dyke was a genius in that mode. I don't think it's funny to ridicule people and therefore didn't find much humor in Don Rickles, though I have told my share of Helen Keller jokes and think the armless-legless jokes are a riot! (What do you call a man with no arms and legs who hangs on your wall? ..... Art. What do you call a man with no arms and legs who sits on a tree branch? ...... Russell.) But those jokes aren't REALLY referring to an armless, legless man. If they were, they wouldn't be funny. The Helen Keller jokes aren't REALLY referring to Helen Keller or any blind person.
This poem, however, IS referring to the KKK and it's not funny to me. Nope. I can't see the sarcasm of it as being funny. Now, I do love sarcasm as humor. I can be sardonic as hell, myself, on occasion.
But I don't get the humor in this piece.
No, I never saw the Naked Lunch film. I tried to read the book and found it tiresome and boring. We rented the film about Hunter Thompson with Johnny Depp playing lead.... "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." I hated it. It wasn't funny. It was boring.
I spent many years of my life watching people get fucked up on drugs and alcohol and make fools of themselves -- fall down on their faces.... bump into furniture and walls.... I didn't find it funny. Who wants to watch a movie of that? Many found that flick funny. Not me.
Oh well... I guess people have different senses of humor and that's what makes the world go 'round.
Being thankful for the KKK and for AIDS will never be funny to me.
Thanks for your answer!
