can I make this my answer as well?
I used to write in my teens.
Words poured from my soul
onto the page in great fluid streams
of feeling and love and anger
of hopes, goals, and dreams.
Looking back, I know not
how or why it ceased
how 17 years I stopped
and existed without expression
on paper caught.
In turmoil, I found me again
and began writing once more
by chance picking up a pen-
poetry saving my soul
becoming closest friend.
I write to feed a part of me
that without words will wither
into nothing, poetry
soothes the soul and
allows me to breathe.

I used to write a lot more than I do now. Mostly stream of consciousness sculpted into something coherent (semi so) as I went along. An angry rant about a government turning into a story of a wilting flower on a roadside struggling against tarmac oppression...

nice poem doreen. This morning i was thinking more along the lines of "why is the artist" or what is the artist. Hopefully I'll be able to write something about that later on today. I feel that I'm getting fewer and fewer ideas for subjects. It's sad really. I feel like I'm being consumed by the numbness of modern life. the tv signals are pulsing in my brain. I feel that I should use this public holiday to go and buy a new couch or garden suite rather than enjoy the sunshine listen to music play my guitar write take photos and smile at dogs and girls and clouds...

I feel a massive lack of substance these days.

your poem here got me thinking doreen, as did jweeble's response.

LR.... "quite a blast" you, my fiend (sp) are a clatty get of a man! poetry about shit in the morning.
