Haha ... I'm sure they tried to correct Kandinsky's grammar too.

Easy to forget how many changes Picasso's art went through during his many years of painting-- blue period, rose period, cubism, forays into surrealism. Quite amazing. The Nazis (the actual Nazis) didn't care for his work ...

I'm sure they did and if they didn't they just didn't know about it. ;)

No doubt Pablo was in the right place at the right time... his success and influence were enormous.

Actually, it was that fucking tight-ass Adolf who condemned modern art. He having been a student in University studying and painting, his work was mediocre and very traditional. Butting heads up against the "modern movement" got him nowhere other than removing all signs of it in his homeland He was a dick and a danger ... good thing he blew his brains out. I doubt he would've survived his arrest, trial and prosecution, eh?

When speaking of critics, good comparison with people trying to tell Picasso how to paint. I wrote a similar poem in 2011, also about Picasso, also in response to the same self-appointed know-it-all critic.

Here it is:

________

They told me not to paint outside the lines
as if it were some type of horrible crime.
The critics said the faces that I drew
were horrible and childish and completely askew.
Old school art teachers said I'd never succeed.
But I didn't care, I made my brush bleed
and painted the way I wanted to.
The know-it-alls didn't have a clue.

Hey, I'm Picasso.
This is MY show.
What the hell do the critics know?

Here's my advice to all who make art.
Just create it from your heart.
Don't listen to judgements and arrogancy.
And one day, you too, could be rich like me!

Rules are meant to be broken.
Picasso has spoken!
