Yeah, and some undervoice, or soundplay.
Definitely needs more soul - I think that if we were together in the room, we'd be far more experimental.
I'll do a few different takes. I fear my computer is offering extra back-noise. I'll try using my phone.

I've downloaded & played the audio, & hear some kind of phase distortion, kind of like what you sometimes hear in radio interviews broadcast via satellite - like reverberation, but not quite. Hard to describe unless you're an audio engineer, which I most definitely am NOT. I might be able to reduce it with a little selective EQ, but I haven't the time today to do much with it. If you have the time, maybe you could re-record it in an acoustically dead space; or even outside. (Be easier than hanging blankets on all your walls!)
I will have some time tomorrow afternoon, either to play around with your recording or to make one of my own. Speaking of the latter - I had an idea I'd like to bounce off (all of) you. When recording "darque 9", I thought it important to match my cadence to yours - I tend to rush my speech to the point of stuttering. But this is a much longer piece, & might benefit from some stanzas taken at a stroll, others at a trot. Maybe? I dunno, this is more your area of expertise than mine........
Maybe you go first and let me work with your interpretation. I seem a little locked into a rhythm

Here's a preliminary take of my rendering of the 1st grouping of stanzas ("mupples" I've begun calling them
). I haven't done any editing: outtakes intact... I cleared my throat at least once.. and offered ad hoc commentary on the quality of the performances - but it should give you an idea of my own pacing, & where I'll probably go with it.

yeah - your voice works great - it's a masculine piece. i'll try later, when i'm feeling less optimistic about a new day.

Take 4 - recorded on my iPhone and then downloaded and converted to MP3 via an online converter.
This has little background noise and the last verse actually fits your timing. The rest - here and there. It's cleanly non sing-songy.
Roy, is it workable?

Sounds good! I need to record the remaining mupples, & maybe re-record what I've already done - then I can get into the fun part, assembly & editing. (I heard a few minor missteps on your part, trivial to remove. My own delivery usually needs massive cleanup. But hey, that's part of the fun.)

yeah. Recording on my phone is new to me. Usually I delete stuff using Audacity.

the trouble with trupples......
Redid my recitation, pacing pretty close to yours - I pulled each of our recordings into a 4-track work area, & in the process of synchronizing our readings somehow managed to delete the middle half of yours. Not to worry - the originals are all intact - but I lost half the morning's work. Once I've cooled off, I'll start again.

No big deal - more irritation at my clumsiness. I've recovered what I lost, plus some. (Always goes faster the 2nd time because then you know how it's done.) I've spaced out each of our readings by inserting blank spaces between stanzas, and a chirp between each sonnet, so I can see the layout visually. Now the assembly begins.
I thought I'd have each us read alternate stanzas, like in "Darque 9". Because each sonnet is repeated verbatim, and there are an odd number of stanzas (7), whoever reads the 1st will read the 7th - so the other reader will read the 1st when the cycle repeats. This means I'll have the option to use the better of two readings if need be.

i loved your chirps and on one of my takes, i also chirped. i need to remember to chirp.
And yes, that's true. I learned that second time is easier lesson when I managed to throw away a huge long research paper in high school and had to redo it. I was amazed that it went well and that i felt somehow more mature (illusion or not, it felt good).
So, looking forward to further mupple updates
