watering the tomatoes I notice
ants, small lives moving, swarming
and where I stepped small bodies
broken and smashed and yet
business continues in ant existence
without fanfare, fear or mourning...
the tomatoes are just beginning
to bloom, small yellow flowers
needing to be tomatoes
the ants take no notice

the thing that i love the best
is the busy work of the ants, bees and the collective society
there is so much to do
and barely enough time to do it in
my friend serves me beautiful food
prepared with style and method
stolen ingredients
all the headaches run away
frayed by love and nutrition
sold down river by artistic flavors
your tomatoes contribute to the beauty of this world
garden my sweet
as we are all faking this as we go along
in improvizational grace
